Well...

I stood in front of the mirror today. I stood there and just took it all in. I was reflecting on not just my outward reflection and my changes in appearance, but the me inside as well. I was feeling as if I finally found her. The woman I’d been searching for all my life. Even as a young girl I’d always felt out of my age bracket in maturaty and emotions. My friends have ALWAYS been years older than me and to this day nearly ALL of my friends are a couple years my senior. This could just be a coincendince, but I feel it runs much deeper than that. I’ve always had this feeling inside me that I have needed to prove to others and myself that I’m worth while. I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety for nearly a decade and finding self worth inside myself has been non-existant.

Until today. Looking at myself, I didn’t just see a over-weight haggered woman with self inflicted scars from her head to her heels, but I saw something much more. Quite opposite even. I saw a beautiful woman. I woman with enviable long dark hair that hangs past the middle of her back.  Skin that though scared is clear and touched with a pinch of pink and freckles that keeps her appearance youthful. A body completely capable of every form of exhilaration. A body that has endured 15 weeks of religious exercise and healthy induldgence, with credit that can be awarded completely to herself. A smile that now shines brighter than it ever has. A nose that can now be loved even with the crookedness that shows the breaks and recklessness of younger years. Two arms strong with muscle from carrying a boy who holds nearly her whole heart. Two legs that are strong and will carry her through the good and bad on this earth. And above all a sound mind. A mind no longer riddled with doubt and pain. But a mind full of confidence and love for herself.
Not only have I lost 20 lbs and that endless amount of doubt and self loathing I had for myself, but I’ve gained so much confidence in not only my appearance, but in WHO I AM. I know who I am, that I am sure of. I stand grounded and humble with full clarification of my endless possibilities, knowing now how capable I really am. I am a woman, a mother, a wife, and a daughter of God. ( I changed the YW theme a little to reflect my feelings…)
“I am a Daughter of our Heavenly Father, who loves me, and I love Him. I WILL “STAND as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places” and I will strive to live the Young Women values, which are: Faith • Divine Nature • Individual Worth • Knowledge • Choice and Accountability • Good Works • Integrity • and Virtue”
I am endlessly grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to put my full faith in the Lord and expierience this long summer alone learning and growing in every way I could. Though I really wasn’t “alone” because I’ve had an AMAZING support system I’ve leaned on and who’ve leaned back.. I am a happier person. What I might have thought before was a “Catastrophe!” now just makes me laugh. (poop on the walls, trips to the E.R, bills, the norm…) I am calm, I am patient. Two things I NEVER thought would be close to possible... I am forgiving, It’s a promise I’ve made with God it’s just as present in my life as the air I breathe. I live everyday not just for my family and myself, but for the PLAN, the plan of happiness that I want to share and hope everyone finds. I have those moments that get me down just like the next person, but I can now let things go as soon as my knees hit the ground and my head is bowed at the end of each day. I try not to worry about tomorrow because today is now so present to me.
I just wanted to write all my thoughts down while I'm feeling them so strongly... I reached my 10% of total body weight lost this week and this really felt huge to me. A numbers just a number, but in the time I’ve lost the weight that has hung unnaturally to my body I’ve lost the pain that has been dragging me down as well. This summer has provided me with the most self-growth and happiness I’ve ever had. Trials are so temporary, but happiness can be SO permanent. If you let it. My sweetheart comes home this month, I already know there will be numerous changes in the near future, but I know we can now handle anything TOGETHER. No one can really explain a mother’s love, because it is so different from the love you have for a spouse or a friend. To me it almost feels stronger, it's so unwavering. I am grateful I am Jack’s mom. I need him and I know he needs me. We are given the mother who loves us best and I know I’m the one who loves him best. He has his ways of showing me :). And today I can say I love myself as well. Here’s to reaching goals and reaching for more.

Boy has he grown!

Jack 5 months old about the size of a full grown Fairy penguin
Jack 15 months old now the size of a full grown Emperor penguin!

Jack has grown soooo much in the past few months! It was like he hit 1 years old and decided he could do ANYTHING!  By the way these pictures were taken at the Utah aquarium, my mom sent me the second one from her phone so it's a little blurry, but when she sent it I remember I had taken the exact same picture months before and thought this would be the perfect chance to update my blog :)

Jack runs now :) he started walking 3 weeks ago and I haven't seen him crawl since. He will sometimes be so dead on his feet that he starts running into things and stumbles with every step, I have to save him from himself by just putting him to bed. He has the cutest feet. They are perfectly square and chubby and I want to eat them. He ALMOST has ankle's now! He definitely has slimmed out A LOT and I'm growing depressed by the lack of cellulite and rolls on his bum and thighs...SO many people love him and it brings me SO much joy the way he lights up others lives (not just mine) He has his favorites that's for sure, but he is generally just a lover of all lover boys. He LOVES his blonde mom Auntie Heather and would gladly run away with her if I let him. You should see how he lights up when he see's her it's pretty magical. He also gives impromtu kisses when he is feelin the love and his hugs just melt you into 5000 pieces.

Jack has a pretty good vocabulary now a days...

Mom, Mommy, MOM!!! Mamama! ( but generally he likes to yell any combinations of these to get my attention, even when I'm basically sitting right next to him...)
Dad, Dat, Daddy ( he makes his daddy tear up every time he says one of these on the phone for night time prayers and scriptures)
Nana (for his grandma's) kinda tugs on those heart strings doesn't it!
Dida (for papa's) Papa's are the coolest people around according to Jack
Jack-Jack (it's my fault but right now Jack thinks his name is plural...)
Thanks, Thank You ( I love when he says "thanks" because he kinda holds the s like sssss)
No, Nope (every kids favorite word)
Yea, YUP (love the second of the two)
UH-OH! ( But VERY emphasized)
Dog
Love you (this one gets me EVERY time!)
Nigh-Nigh ( for night-night, he actually will take me by the hand and lead me to his crib when he is ready for bed.)
Bu-Bye ( with hand wave and all)
Hi
Cat (his MEOW is very realistic lol)
All done ( he signs this one as he says it)
Maymen ( for "amen" after a prayer..though he likes to beat you to the punch by saying in a few times before the actual prayer is over haha)
Ball
and my Favorite WOW

And he signs please, thank you, treat, food, drink, milk, cracker and all done! Sometimes when he REALLY wants something he doesn't know the sign or word for he starts going through his whole list of signs and words and starts making up his own signs in a panic, it's pretty funny haha he is a real chatty boy and has a cute little voice with nonsense always flowing, sometimes I swear I hear him say a complete sentence though!

Basically we love him to pieces and he the center of our universe :)

The Kenner's lives have been in quite a tizzy with life's ups and downs, but we are enjoying it all not just enduring it. Chris recently graduated from Army BCT with flying colors, (I'll write a whole post on that later) and he is now finishing up his last 5 weeks of AIT. He has chosen 88M (Motor Transport Operator) for his career path which is basically a "support role" in the Army. He will be driving big tanker trucks, supply trucks, etc. He says he feels like his life has been lead to this exact career path at this exact time with all the experience he has had driving large vehicles at Edutek and Loomis, and he feels totally comfortable and at ease with the training. I've seen some of the trucks they will be driving and they are HUGE!!! He's already scoring in the upwards of 98% in his simulator exams and they are now on to driving the real deals.

The M1083A1 they call it "the 5 ton"
The M915

One thing I believe we are true examples of is that opposition builds a stronger more meaningful marriage. I do not like being away from my husband. I hate it actually, but it is endurable. And we are both finding joy in the situations we have been placed in/placed our selves in. There would be no reason for me to waste this time griping when I could be enjoying these close moments with Jack and learning that absence really has made our hearts fonder of one another. Our faith and testimonies have grown in ways I can't even describe and the honest truth is we KNOW this is what Chris is suppose to be doing, and we know every path and hurtle we've crossed has lead us to this point. The future is still scary, but we know it is also going to be so so so so marvelous. We now have that solid footing in our relationship with one another and the gospel that is helping us reach high to the endless goals we can achieve together, always with the Lord. I'm just happy in the fact that I know I don't need to know EVERYTHING to know everything I NEED to know. Faith is something learned and practiced it hasn't always come easily or naturally, but it all we really have. Taking one day at a time and know my family is eternal keeps me grounded. I love my family, I LOVE my husband, and I LOOOOVE and have a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints!

Update on Chris

Chris arrived safely to Fort Leonard Wood Missouri on April 30th. He was able to call with a brief scripted message letting me know he made it there safe. He was then in processing for a week and I didn't hear by mail or by phone for a solid week. I got an unexpected call from him on May 7th and I was just ecstatic! It was his ONE phone call home until graduation and it was only 3 minutes long. What can you possibly say in 3 minutes? Well, a whole love of "I love You's", "I'm Proud of You's", and "I Miss You's" :) It was JUST what I needed to get me through these past 3 weeks! And wow, have the days/weeks flown by! I received my FIRST letter from Chris Friday, May 11th. He is in Echo Company, 4th Platoon they call themselves "The Devil Dogs. He says he Drill Sergeants are crazy tough because they are known to be the BEST platoon. Oh and his head is shaved, haha.

Chris said the first thing to happen when they arrived to actual Basic Training was they all got "Shark Attacked". They all drove in a bus in silence, he said he could tell the majority of the men (including him) where a bit nervous and then all of a sudden they were surrounded by Drill Sergeants screaming and making them do exercise after exercise. Chris said the first lesson he's learned is, "If a drill sergeant says it, you better freaking do it! And do it FAST!" (This made me laugh because ALL through out his letter's Chris talks about how much "fun" he's having.) Chris has made some good battle buddies and everyone looks out for each other. He pulled a muscle his first week training and got blisters on both his heels that popped and became infected. They put him on crutches, but has been recently RTD (Returned To Duty) and didn't miss ANY of the REAL training (Thank Heavens!) He asked me to have everyone pray for his leg, it is still very sore and he worries about busting it more. So, please pray for a full recovery on his pulled muscle.

Chris say's a typical day in Basic Training right now goes like this:

0400-Wake up, Get Ready, Clean
0500(ish)- Drill Sergents come in and usually "smoke" them
0610- Get in Formation to march to the DFAC (Dining Facility)
0630-Breakfast (But every meal is called "chow")
0650-Back in formation and march back to barracks
0700-Briefings (sitting in class) and assorted "smoking"
1110-Formation march to DFAC
1130-Lunch
1150-Formation and march back to barracks
1200-Briefing, cleaning, getting "smoked", learning drill and ceremony etc.
1630- Formation march to DFAC and dinner
1700- More of the same stuff explained above and getting "smoked" some more
2000-Personal time, (Shower, Letters, etc.)
2100- Lights out.

This was all in his own words and "smoke", "smoking", and "smoked" I've learned means EXTREME exercises. Chris says though he doesn't have access to a scale he can see himself becoming leaner and leaner everyday.

Chris' battle buddy's last name is Kingsby, he's 19 and from Fresno, California. He says he's a cool kid and has looked after her while he was injured as has the rest of his platoon. It sounds to me like Chris is the "favorite" everyone is always asking for his help he says and Chris is constantly sharing everything and anything he can with everyone. He is one amazing guy my husband :)

Chris even sent me a Mother's Day card from him and one from Jack! He must have purchased them before hand because I'm pretty sure the PDX doesn't carry that type of stuff. Chris goes to church every Sunday and he says he looks forward to it EVERY week! He said on his first Sunday when the bus arrived to the LDS church there where members lined up waiting to greet them. He said, "It took every ounce of strength to not break down into tears right there and then. Everyone is so nice, welcoming, and helpful. It's truly breathtaking to see first-hand how the church is like home no matter where you go."
Chris said a member in his platoon practically begged him to read scriptures with him every night because he was having some trouble adjusting. Chris says it's like he's on a second mission. Non members are constantly coming up to him after getting back from church with tons of questions and a few have even gone to church with him! This goes to show God's plan is FAR greater than ours. Chris has gotten constant confirmations that he is where HE NEEDS TO BE, and so have I.
The Ward even sent me a directory of numbers to call if I needed anything and they sent my a picture of Chris too! He looks sooo different to me, but still so unbelievably handsome.

Soldiers are constantly asking Chris about his family and religion. He is showing that he has an extra something' about him because he is able to do the exercises with little efforts and walks taller than the rest on the really hard days. I'm so proud of my husband, I really truly am. I love him more than EVER and love our relationship we've created with God and ourselves.

Please write to my husband. He writes me EVERY DAY and I KNOW he would also love to hear from all of you besides me.
